I. Background and purpose of the meeting

“Oriental Design Forum was initiated by the Department of Design, School of Media and Design, Shanghai Jiaotong University, and the Innovative Design Center of Shanghai Jiaotong University. It invites well-known design scholars at home and abroad to focus on the frontier theory of design disciplines and practical issues. The forum aims to pool ideas, integrate resources, plan for the future, and create a design platform with academic competitiveness and social influence worldwide. With strong support from all sides, the first and second Oriental Design Forum were successfully held in Shanghai Jiaotong University in November 2015 and April 2016.

With the continuous progress of social science and technology, contemporary design also shows a state of rapid development. The transformation from Chinese manufacturing to Chinese creation has elevated the design discipline to an unprecedented height. In the West, design discipline has developed into a mature discipline with complete system. In China, the time of independent discipline of design is relatively short, and the theoretical system is not perfect.

Oriental design is a system of design ideas based on Oriental culture. The relationship between Oriental design and traditional culture has a long history and is inseparable. In the wave of internationalization, every design scholar is faced with the problem of how to not only focus on the frontier theory but also settle down on the realistic problem, namely inherit the national characteristics and present their own unique personality. Although many researchers have made beneficial discussions on the integration of Oriental culture and design disciplines, the results are relatively scattered, especially the lack of systematic research on Oriental design ideas and theoretical systems.

The "one belt and one way" as China's first and top level national strategy has far-reaching strategic significance for China's modernization drive and standing in the leading position of the world. The main contents of cooperation are "policy communication, facilities communication, trade unimpeded, capital financing and people's minds communication". Countries along the route have different cultural traditions. To achieve the "five links", there are cultural barriers to a certain extent. Designing cultural bridges with innovative approaches and methods and strengthening cross-cultural communication will help create a new situation of open and inclusive human communication in countries along the line. Shanghai Jiaotong University Innovation and design center is the first national double innovation demonstration base construction project in China. The "innovative design" has been listed as a world-class discipline construction plan by the school. The "Oriental design" of the key construction is to strengthen the cultural inheritance and innovation with the Chinese excellent culture as the core, and promote the countries along the belt. Many cultural exchanges between them are of great significance.

基于此，我们发起举办2017International Workshop on Oriental and Oriental design，As one of the main academic activities of the third Oriental design forum, focusing on the theme of "cultural channel", the purpose is to explore how to use Oriental design theory to promote cross-cultural communication between the countries along the route.

II. Organization of the Conference

2017Along the way and Oriental design countryThe International Seminar is an international academic conference approved by the Ministry of Education and co-sponsored by Shanghai Jiaotong University, International Society of Design Sciences, Minhang District People's Government and Shanghai Real Estate Minhong Group, and co-sponsored by the Office of Confucius Institute of Innovation and Design Center and International Cooperation and Exchange Branch of Shanghai Jiaotong University.

The conference will be held at Shanghai Jiaotong University from October 20 to 22, 2017. During the meeting, senior experts, research scholars and business pioneers in the humanities field of art design will be invited to explore the frontier theory and practice of art and design, and to explore the theory of cross culture design and integration in all the countries along the route, so as to accumulate resources for the establishment of Oriental design theory system. At the same time, it can promote the construction of Shanghai Oriental Design Capital and International Science Creation Center. The meeting will continueExcellent papers selected from the conference (the second Oriental Design Award for outstanding papers) and the publication of the cultural passage: a collection of "one way and Oriental design".。

Now we are conducting a literature invitation for well-known scholars and design practitioners at home and abroad. We sincerely look forward to the active participation of academics and industry friends, especially university teachers, doctoral students and master's students in related fields.

III. Theme of the Conference

The theme of this meeting is"Cultural channel: one belt and one road" and "Oriental design"。Around this theme, papers are invited to include (but not limited to) the following topics:

1.Oriental design concept system;

2.Frontier issues of contemporary design;

3. Research on design history and design works;

4. Designer and design education;

5. Cross-cultural Design Comparison；

6. Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism and Oriental Design；

7. Urban Integral Design；

8. Characteristic Town and Regional Revitalization Design；

9. Human Settlement Environment Design

10.Silk Road Flower Language: Flower culture along the way.

IV. Requirements for Collection of Articles

(1) Requirements for the content of the essay:

Applicant papers should be in line with the theme of the conference, have theoretical prospects and practical significance, clear views, detailed information, standardized literature citation, and are unpublished academic papers. The organizing committee will organize experts and scholars to select articles (contribution experts are not included in the final evaluation committee). The selected authors will receive invitations to participate in the meeting. Selected papers will be included in the Conference Papers Collection. The Organizing Committee will present the selected authors with the Conference Papers Collection and issue certificates for outstanding authors.。

(2) Paper format and submission requirements

1.The full text is controlled in 5000 - 15000 words. The title is self-compiled. It provides Chinese and English abstracts, keywords and references.

2.Papers are typesetted with Word electronic documents and pages are uniformly arranged on A4 paper. The format of the paper is specified in the annex. And send it to the Secretariat by e-mail. Please keep your own manuscript.

3.The title of the email should be completed in accordance with "Contribution for Articles in 2017 Oriental Design Forum + Author Name + Work Unit". Each author should submit no more than 2 papers in the name of the first author.

4.At the end of the paper, please specify the author's name, work unit, title, position, communication mode (contact address, postal code, mobile phone, fax and e-mail) in order to communicate and send the collection of papers in time.

5.Papers should be guaranteed to be original, not published or read in publications or conferences published at home and abroad; papers are not confidential, no plagiarism, and they bear their own responsibilities.。
