Shanghai Jiao Tong University International Center for Innovation Design，(SJTU-ICID）was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in May 2016 as one of the first batch of National Demonstration bases for Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation. ICID was formally established on April 8, 2017 by the decision of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai Jiao Tong Group [2017] No. 15) and hired Professor Zhou Wuzhong as the director . Relying on the advantage of design department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the industrial vitality of neoBay Global Innovation& Entrepreneurship Community, ICID aims to build a platform, which can meet the development needs of national creative and emerging industries, for interdisciplinary integration, in-depth international cooperation and industry-university-research linkage. ICID strives to become a "Training Gathering Place" to attract design practitioners, a "Talent Reservoir" to gather outstanding students from both domestic and foreign countries, an "International Maker Center" to help entrepreneurial talents, and an "Incubator and Accelerator" for industrial innovation.In 2017, ICID compiled and completed the "World Class Discipline Construction Scheme for Innovative Design Discipline Group of Shanghai Jiao Tong University". Since 2018, ICID served major national projects and national strategies such as Xiongan New Area, rural revitalization, and integration of the Yangtze River Delta Region. During this period, ICID hosted/undertaken several academic conferences such as the Oriental Design Forum（for 6 consecutive sessions, the paper has been included in CNKI）, High-level Forum on the Revitalization of Chinese Rural Culture（sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and undertaken by ICID），the World Youth Business Conference (planned and presided over the theme forum), the Yangtze River Delta Youth Village Revitalization Design Competition, and other large-scale activities that helped mass entrepreneurship and innovation. As one of the main sponsors, ICID established the International Society for Design Science (ISDS) and the China Rural Revitalization Service Alliance. ICID established the "Regional Revitalization Design" professional direction, curriculum system, professional team, DSA laboratory and Neo-Ruralism Research and Practice Base (currently awarded 5 "New Countryside Research and Design Center of ICID，SJTU" in Jiangsu Jiangyin Chaoyang Villa, Jiangsu Yixing Xizhu Baita Village, Shanghai Baoshan Yuepu Town , Guizhou Nayong Gungan Rock Tourist Scenic Spot, and Zhejiang Tonglu Fengxi Rose Town). The center orients to use total design method to accelerate the integration of "Design" and "Product + Environment", and to provide national, worldwide, all-round high-quality services for technological innovation, cultural heritage and the improvement of human settlement.
