Good morning!

In the celebration of 19th Communist Party Congress, we welcome the guestsand friends who attended the 3rd Oriental Design Forum on ” Belt and Road " and the Oriental Design International Symposium. Onbehalf of the Organizing Committee, I would like to sincerely welcome you guysand thanks for your attending.

On May 11, 2015, the 30th anniversary of SJTU Design, International Centerfor Innovation and design of SJTU was approved as the first demonstration basesfor mass entrepreneurship and innovation nationwide. On the 121 anniversary ofInternational Center for Innovation and design of SJTU was formallyestablished. Two months later, “Innovativedesign of first-class discipline construction program”was certified by the school demonstration. "Innovation design"subject , based on design ,combined “Design and Industry”and "Design and Environment”, is formally come out. SJTU steps into the Great Design era.

Confucius said, "At fifteen, I had my mind bent on learning. Atthirty, I stood firm…”As a scholar, We should be successful and independent on academic at the age ofthirty. As a subject in International Center for Innovation and design of SJTU,what kind of characteristics should they have? Mr. Qian Xuesen, our senior, hasalways advocated the combination of science and art. “The Question of Qian Xuesen”casts the academic tradition of the infiltration of liberal art &science and the integration of science and technology. That’s why interdisciplinary andinnovation design are normal in SJTU. What is the academic tradition of SJTUdesign subject which is personally advocated the establishment by Mr. Qian?

Through the efforts and explore we make in the first two Orient DesignForums, especially,  on the two importantconferences separately held in Yangzhou and Jinan, I use the same theme reportwhich is  "Oriental design for themeaning of innovation and innovation of Chinese civilization," toconsult. Combining oriental culture which is taking China outstandingtraditional culture as a core and oriental design which is built by combingmodern scientific and technological achievements of innovative design methods.These will be our academic tradition of SJTU. Xi Jinping said“To promote the creative transformation of traditional Chinese culture,innovation and development”, The futureof oriental design is promising.

Under the leadership and support of the school leaders, driven by thepower of multiple parties, especially under the direct leadership of thecurrent school leaders. The design of SJTU is stepping into an important timeof Integration development, innovation development, and open-door development.At this moment, delegates from all over the world come to STJU for academicdiscussion. On behalf of the International Center for Innovation and Design and allthe teachers and students in Design Department, I would like to express mysincere thanks again.

The Great design subject in SJTU has already condensed the design theoryand methods, product and intelligent design, visual and information design, interior design andsustainable environmental design. We are building a corresponding designeducation and personnel training system as well. Our goal is to build a “great design”platform. Toachieve this goal, our urgent priority is to build a design-centric,multi-disciplinary cross-cutting innovative design talent. International Centerfor Innovation and Design is a national, open and international academic platform.Besides existing basic academic strength in SJTU, we also sincerely invite therelevant design strength from all over the world to join us. Our goal is toaccelerating the integration innovation of “Great design”. “Industrial design”and“Environment design”. We are goingto exploring the path for the oriental design together. So that the design forSJTU will quickly step into the forefront of world-class discipline for socialdevelopment and contribute to our human beings.
